‘How could you lie to me like that?' Todd demanded, as I tried and failed to change the subject.

‘You don’t get it,’ I argued. ‘It was literally the hottest thing I’ve ever seen. They were fucking in a public place and they invited me to join in—how could I say no?’

Todd shook his head as though every word I said confused him.

‘Cami, I can’t believe you went there by yourself. Again. That’s so dangerous!’

I stood in front of him with my hands on my hips, feeling my pulse thudding through my veins. This was the kind of fight that usually led to angry sex—one of us pushing the other against the wall, both of us ripping each other’s clothes off.

‘Why?’ I demanded. ‘Is it because someone might want to fuck me? Because I’d love that, and I think you would too.’

‘Of course I’d love that,’ Todd said, and in my experience, this was the point in the fight where he’d usually grab me and kiss me roughly, but today he slumped on the couch and I blinked, not knowing what to do now that our fight wasn’t following its usual script. ‘It’s such a fucking hot idea, I just don’t want you getting in over your head. There’s certain expectations in circles like that, and I don’t want you doing anything you’re not comfortable with.’

I sat next to him, my leg against his.

‘Since when have I ever done anything I’m not comfortable with?’ I shot back. ‘Honestly, I can’t think of anything they’d do that I wouldn’t at least try.’

Todd looked at me as though he was seeing me for the first time. We’d had plenty of hypothetical conversations, but we’d never really spoken about our actual boundaries. Or my lack of them.

‘Are you serious, Cami?’

I nodded. ‘Let’s go back there,’ I urged. ‘And I’ll show you.’
